Twitter in Focus: James Woods

by tonyd on October 28, 2015 at 12:01 am

Someone to care for, to be there for—

We’ve got…James Woods!

@RealJamesWoods

October 26th:  “Starting Monday on a really happy note. ”

Yeah, the Chive had a whole picture/gif thing on that.  Good for him and that adorable little fawn.

October 26th:  “MSM is crowning her a year in advance. Even by #lapdog media standards that’s a little much, though not surprising. http://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2015-10-26/the-most-likely-next-president-is-hillary-clinton …”

Well, I’d say the odds are in her favor.  I have to imagine the DNC hierarchy have picked her, not that Sanders would be all that radical.  Bottom line, she’s willing to do whatever and Sanders probably only 80% of the same whatever.  The GOP candidates are such clowns.  If they put anyone that isn’t a complete embarrassment, it could be a race.

October 26th:  “My 1988 signed K Yairi Alvarez D-75. The herringbone trim was done by hand: small “matchsticks” laid on end, sanded. ”

Totally confused.  No idea you toured with Aerosmith.

October 26th:  “Glenn Reynolds: Saving our ignocratic republic http://usat.ly/1N2s4MR  Finally something with which both sides should agree…”

Tweeting the Constitution might give you a shot.  Get Justin Beiber and Lil’ Wayne to do it and then definitely.

October 26th:  “Look at the specs on this thing for $600 street price…Amazing! http://www.epiphone.com/Products/Acoustic-Electric/Masterbilt-DR-500MCE.aspx …”

I now realize that my guitar ignorance is staggering.

23 hours ago:  “There are so many “good news/bad news” jokes in this story, I don’t even know where to begin… http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/energy-environment/wp/2015/10/26/climate-change-could-soon-push-persian-gulf-temperatures-to-lethal-extremes-report-warns/ …”

Now you’ve done it.  The Pentagon will be bent on a new weather weapon in 2017.

10 hours ago:  “My buddy Steve Happas sent me this pic for breast cancer awareness. This is a real man. #MenForWomen #breastcancer ”

I would’ve sent this pic, but that’s me.

10 hours ago:  “There’s a feminist civil war brewing over Caitlyn Jenner | New York Post. Catfight! http://nypost.com/2015/10/26/theres-a-feminist-civil-war-brewing-over-caitlyn-jenner/ …”

As I said to my friend, who happens to be transgender, I couldn’t give less of a fuck about Caitlyn Jenner and her family.  Seriously, good of her, but who cares?

10 hours ago:  “Hillary Clinton’s Benghazi Defense & Emails | National Review Online http://www.nationalreview.com/article/426074/hillary-clinton-benghazi-emails …”

People used to resign over a lot less with a little dignity.  The Clintons got no shame.

10 hours ago:  “Bill Clinton scored paid speeches while Hillary Clinton made official State Department visits – Washington Times http://m.washingtontimes.com/news/2015/oct/21/bill-clinton-scored-paid-speeches-while-hillary-cl/?page=all …”

Of course.  He bombed the shit out of Kosovo just to distract people from his embarrassing quest for strange.  This is nothing.

10 hours ago:  “Favorability Ratings Show Hillary Clinton Is Unelectable and Bernie Sanders Wins a General Election http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/8388316 …”

I don’t think Bernie is going to hold up against the Republicans.  He can’t get around the fact that he’d have to raise taxes.  Maybe if he had come out hard against the wars, at least then he’d have a shot at paying for stuff.

9 hours ago:  “This absolutely says it all… pic.twitter.com/sHLgYChIqg”

Yeah, gotta agree on that.

Well, I gotta say, James has one of more intelligent Twitter accounts.  Let’s rate him.  I give him a 5 for Insanity, a 10 for Style and a 10 for Mustness.  That’s an overall score of 8.3.  You gotta follow the Woods man!

And if you have a suggestion for Twitter in Focus, email me here.

Frat Boy At the Movies: Dope

by tonyd on October 26, 2015 at 1:08 am

FratBoyATtheMovies

Normally, I only review movies that are in the theater.  But these days, I prefer to watch them from home.  Dope came out this year (June), so I figure it’s fair game for this column.

Dope is a coming of age movie about Malcolm (Shameik Moore), a straight-A student trying to get by in his rough Los Angeles neighborhood.  Malcolm loves 90’s hiphop, is the leader of a punk band with his two friends, but is ultimately a nerd.  Through circumstances beyond his control, he gets caught up the local drug trade and is forced to use his nerd powers to get out.  Also making an appearance is Blake Anderson (AKA: Uncle Blazer from Workaholics) as a computer whiz that helps the group.

With probably one of the best soundtracks in the background of the movie (including original music by Pharrell Williams), Dope is a breezy, fun and funny, coming-of-age movie that’s completely worth the 103 minute run time.  Dope is currently on On-Demand for $1.99.  I give it 9 out of 10 keggers.

Your Halloween Fratoscope

by tonyd on October 25, 2015 at 12:01 am

FratoScopeHeader

If your birthday is this week:  The stars say, those people in your apartment aren’t throwing a surprise birthday party, they are robbing your place.

Aries:  The Headless Horseman will get into an accident with his car, but your insurance company won’t pay because he doesn’t have a picture on his driver’s license.

Taurus:  You’ll run into President Obama at the supermarket buying his own ice.

Gemini: You will give your hamster too much LSD.

Lemini:  You will decide that selling LSD to people who give it to their pets is far too profitable to stop.

Cancer:  This week, prepare to meet someone special; that guy at the DMV who may have Down Syndrome.

Leo:  Stay Frosty this week, the snowman costume is way cooler than all the others.

Virgo:  Your coworkers will chip in and buy you the strongest deodorant money can buy.

Libra:  You will receive a gift from your coworkers.

Scorpio:  The carpeting place you hire finally is able to remove the stank from your carpeting.

Sagittarius:  You will rent a tux and find its pockets are full of hypodermic needles and coupons for Red Bull.

Capricorn:  After spotting Bigfoot, the elusive monster will attempt to borrow $2000 to start his own business, but he doesn’t really have a good plan.

Aquarius:  After your argument in the bowling alley, you’ll get a bowling pin through your window with a note that says, “Y’know, you’re probably right.”

Pisces: You will premiere a webcomic more stupid than Super Frat.

Movies You Missed: Coffee Town

by tonyd on October 24, 2015 at 12:01 am

Coffee Town stars Ben Schwartz (Gino), Steve Little (Chad) and Glenn Howerton (Will, AKA: Dennis, from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) as three friends who hang out at a local coffee shop.  When the shop is threatened with a redesign that will turn it into a bistro, Will decides they need to rob it to make the location unappealing enough so it will stay a coffee shop.

This is a College Humor movie and it was pretty solid.  It features a lot of lower tier comedic actors in solid performances.  Schwartz carries a good portion of the movie as a wacky cop.  Steve Little (who you might remember from East Bound and Down) is also pretty funny as Chad the office drone who is dying for a little excitement.  Howerton, as Will, is the guy pining for the girl, so he’s not the manic Golden God from Sunny.  Still, the movie gives him an opportunity to showcase more of his comedic talent and Brad Copeland’s script (who also directed) gives us nice little detours like the fight between the Down Syndrome guy and Chad.

The guy who steals the show, however, is Josh Groban, as a douchebag coffee barista with a band.  Groban’s and Howerton’s rivalry over the hot girl, Becca, is pretty funny.

I had heard good things about this flick from the Sunny fans on Reddit and the movie did not disappoint.  It’s currently running on HBO on Demand until the end of October and is free.  You could do way worse, bros.
