Frat Boy At the Movies: Hugo

by tonyd on December 2, 2011 at 1:09 am

Despite the lack of people getting shot in the face, the Martin Scorsese movie Hugo is one of his best.  The cast is just amazing: Christopher Lee, Jude Law, Ben Kingsley, Sacha Baron Cohen.  Also, Asa Butterfield as Hugo and Chloe Grace Mortez (Hit Girl from Kick Ass) as Isabella.

Based on a novel, Hugo is an orphaned boy who, through circumstances, ends up living the a train station in Paris.  Along the way, he’s trying to fix an automaton left to him by his late father.  He believes there’s some kind of message in it.  He meets, at the train station, George Mille who is selling wind up toys.  This part of the story is based in reality.  George is an important figure in film and to tell you anymore might give it away.

Anyhow, he movie has everything: drama, comedy, adventure.  Normally, I go for face-shooting, explosions and boobies, but I gotta say I really enjoyed this.  It was just a tad long at two hours and seven minutes.  The movie starts to feel its length about 85% through.  But other than that, it’s really just a beautifully made film.  Even the scenery was just awesome.  It really is an impressive movie.  Got see it.

I give Hugo 9.5 out of 10 keggers.

Twitter in Focus: Samuel L. Jackson

by tonyd on November 30, 2011 at 12:01 am

Yo, bros!

Welcome to Twitter in Focus where media comes to die.  Today’s tweeter is Samuel L. Jackson.  And if you don’t know who that is, well you obviously haven’t seen Loaded Weapon I with Emilio Estevez.  Now let’s look at some motherfuckin’ tweets!

@SamuelLJackson

October 28th:  “Got a Fukkin’ cold! Gotta tuff out these wknd shows! Can’t short the people!”

You are one step away from typing in caps.  I can sense it.

October 28th:  “BTW, thanks for all the Guinness props! Couldna done it w/o you UNCUT DOPE MUHFUGGAS!!”

I don’t think you should be drinking beer when you have a cold, but then again…

October 29th:  “First snow of the year in NY! WTF!!! Waaaaay too soon for THIS SHIT!”

I still got my snow shovel by the door and it was almost 70 degrees today.

October 29th:  “http://yfrog.com/nydt1nj?”

God damn, don’t remind me.

October 31st:  “Everybody have a GREAT HALLOWEEN! Puhleeze, BE CAREFUL!! Wanna hear from U T or T MUHFUGGAS 2morra!”

The bar for your Halloween costume must be very high.

November 3rd:  “Carol, my make-up person & her sister got sick after eating @ Print the other nite! Those muhfukkas said, so what?!”

Maybe they should’ve just bought toner instead of sandwiches.

November 8th:  “Ahhh man! Heavy D?! Dwight wz a dear friend. Fond memories of a truly cool brutha.”

Sad.  You know everybody.

November 8th:  “Met Joe Frazier many times, always a smile & kind words. A man’s MAN!”

Also sad.

November 15th:  “How many movies can U name? http://yfrog.com/nxthaxwj”

Hmmm.  Nine.

November 16th:  “How does Chelsea Handler confuse Morgan Freeman’s hand on her thigh for my muhfukkin hand?!”

My question is, when did Morgan Freeman do Chelsea Handler?

November 18th:  “Just leaving Heavy D’s Celebration of Life! Awesome!!! That Muhfukka was LOVED!”

I hope people leave my funeral with that attitude.

November 19th:  “Only in America & a Blast from da past! Muhfukkin DK & Marion B @ The Mountaintop! http://pic.twitter.com/LrlZ8iH0”

Quick!  Inventory your dressing room!

November 22nd:  “Saw @traciethoms killin’ it in Stickfly last night! Some actin’ muhfukkas up in there!”

It’s getting some good reviews.

November 24th:  “From one thankful muhfukkah to the resta yall, HAPPY THANKSGIVING!”

I was thankful the traffic wasn’t that bad in NYC.

November 25th:  “Those Jackson Muhfukkas Curtis & Sam @ The Mountaintop! http://pic.twitter.com/6mshZanS”

Is there anybody you don’t know?

November 26th:  “One of THE Funniest muhfukkas on the planet Paul Mooney @ The Mountaintop! http://pic.twitter.com/Ie7sv7AB”

After seeing this, I have to agree.

Okay, let’s rate this Jedi’s tweets.  Well, he’s posting relatively recently, considering the schedule he must have.  I mean, he’s still in a ton of stuff.  I give him a 7 for Mustness, a 8 for Style and a 9 for Insanity.  That’s an overall score of 8.  C’mon, it’s Samuel L. “mutha fukkin” Jackson people.

And if you have a suggestion for Twitter in Focus, email us here.

Frat Boy At the Movies: Arthur Christmas

by tonyd on November 28, 2011 at 12:01 am

Arthur Christmas is a fun Christmas movie.  Great character design, a tight script and direction.  Sure, it’s got a lot of old Christmas cliches, but there are some genuine, fun and creative moments that make the price of admission worth it.  I saw it in 3D.  While I don’t think the 3D was particularly helpful or interesting, the movie itself was.

The basic premise:  Santa is a generational thing.  Passed down from father to son over hundreds of years, the current Santa has two sons: Arthur and Steve.  Arthur is a kind-hearted, doofus, while Steve is a driven technocrat.  Things are going smoothly when one of the billions of presents is misplaced and rediscovered only after the delivery is done.  You can pretty much write the rest.

Hey, look, it’s not going to blow your mind or anything, but it’s fun.  The Elves are especially hilarious as Santa has, literally, thousands of them working for him like soldiers.  If you think too much about it or if you’re looking for some kind of deeper message in your movie, you’re never going to like this.  If you want some Christmas fluff, however, you can do a helluva lot worse.  And as they say, it’s fun for the whole family, meaning that there’s no cursing or boobies.

Unless you’re a total Scrooge, you’ll probably like it.  I give Arthur Christmas 8 out of 10 keggers.

Your Fratoscope: November 27, 2011

by tonyd on November 27, 2011 at 12:01 am

If your birthday is this week:  Your Jedi application will be rejected after a picture of you wearing Spock ears surfaces on the Internet.

Aries:  You will win your ebay bid, but will regret buying Vince Vaughn’s old pants.

Taurus:  The stars say, take in your trashcans.  The garbage men came hours ago.

Gemini:  You’ll be the first guest on Tosh.O to fail at a web redemption.

Lemini:  This week, you’ll get all your Christmas shopping done.  Mostly because everyone in your family dies.

Cancer:  You’ll eat way too many pancakes.  The paramedics will say more than anyone they’ve ever seen.

Leo:  This week you’ll realize that you’d better rake the leaves before they organize and kill you.  Either that or you’re doing too much meth.  Either way, yard work wouldn’t kill you.

Virgo:  Your corrective surgery will finally clear your nasal passages, allowing you to finally smell your own B.O.  Turns out, your monthly shower wasn’t cutting it all this time.

Libra:  The bong fairy visits.  He brings you a new bong, but smokes all your weed and eats the rest of the pizza.

Scorpio:  You will experience the most intense orgasm of your life this week.  Guess that RealDoll you had made of yourself was worth every penny.

Sagittarius:  This week, you will host a GOP Presidential Candidate Debate in your basement.  You’ll be the third person on your street to do so.

Capricorn:  Your English to Spanish dictionary may have many misprints, as your attempt to supervise your lawn maintenance guys ends with them doing the Thriller dance.

Aquarius:  You may have a problem as your children will no longer take bets from you.

Pisces:  You vast knowledge of cartoon cereal mascots will save you from a Crunchberry Beast attack.
