Frat Boy At the Movies: Kick Ass

by tonyd on April 24, 2010 at 12:45 am

Kick Ass is a pretty damn awesome movie and mostly holds true to the comic book. The basic premise: a real superhero existing in a real New York City. An average high school comic book geek puts on the tights and decides to fight crime. He’s not very good at it, but he’s lucky and becomes a YouTube sensation.

The real standout in the movie is Hit Girl, the daughter/little girl sidekick of Nicholas Cage AKA: Big Daddy. Cage kicks some pretty major ass as well and probably would’ve made a decent Batman. McLovin also has a major role and without giving away the ending, he’ll be back if there is a sequel.

Sadly, box office was a little weak and the hype for this movie has been non-stop. I loved it, but ultimately I think the movie studio overdid. I mean, I’ve seen the trailer like 200 times and I’m not even looking for it.

Still, only Nicholas Cage was the big name in this movie, so there is a shot the young cast could come back for a sequel. Hit Girl was absolutely mesmerizing in the final action scene. Totally worth the price of admission.

I give Kick Ass 8.5 keggers out of 10. It’s a lot of fun and there is a ton of action.

Frat Boy At the Movies: The Joneses

by tonyd on April 23, 2010 at 12:01 am

The Joneses is a pretty smart movie with something to say about the dark side of consumerism. While it doesn’t go far enough in my view, it is a pretty entertaining movie. David Duchovny stars at the fake dad of a household of stealth marketers led by Demi Moore. The deal is, this “perfect family” moves into a rich community, shows them all the cool products they own (which are actually supplied by a cutting edge advertising company) and then drive the sales of certain products up. Gary Cole plays the beleaguered neighbor that tries to keep up.

Most of the story focuses on the love story between Duchovny and Moore. Amber Heard, who is so hot, gets naked. Did I mention she’s really hot. Ultimately, her story doesn’t tie into the whole consumerism part. The script only skims the surface of what would ultimately be rich, rich fodder. It gets a little dark at the end, but ultimately has a “feel good” ending.

I think the only problem with the concept is that any real company is not going to loan their products to a movie that’s going to have a negative message about purchasing. I mean, why would they? Naturally, the only outright “bad” product in the movie is totally made up. I feel like, although its a well made film, the makers pulled back a little. I would’ve liked to see them really stick it to the corporations, but still it was an interesting concept and not too far fetched.

I’m on the fence about whether to wait for DVD for this. Did I mention Amber Heard’s amazing tits? Oh, right, I did. God she’s hot. And Demi Moore still ain’t no slouch either. I give The Joneses 6.5 keggers out of ten.

Who is Full of Awesome? with Tony DiGerolamo

by tonyd on April 22, 2010 at 3:26 am

with Tony DiGerolamo

Every Thursday, Super Frat lists individuals whose behaviors are so cool and righteous that they should be deemed “Full of Awesome”.

Hey bros. This week’s heroes are just normal people who one day found the awesomeness inside themselves. Look for it in yourselves, bros. It’s there. And someday, you will be on this awesome list!

– To the South Park guys, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, for having giant balls of steel for the recent 200th episode. You guys and your balls, are full of awesome. Glad to see a little thing like death won’t stop you from entertaining me.

– To the National Guardsman that saved and Iraqi boy by bringing him to America for surgery. Nice job, soldier! Now if he only didn’t have to go back to Iraq.

– The woman who invent Boobquake. I’m not sure what it is, but I know I support it fully. Look for extra cleavage April 26th, bros. And make sure you thank this kind, busty woman. Unless you happen to be visiting an old folks home that day. Nice job, Booby Magee!

– Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick is on the list today because she is pushing for a 5% pay cut in Congress. Yeah, you read right. Pay cut. Why should we be the only ones eating Ramen noodles and canceling our subscription to the expensive porn site. Let these layabout Congresspeople do something for a change.

– Finally, to the quick thinking 15 year-old that saved his dad, when he accidentally lit himself on fire. The kid immediately shook up a bottle of soda and sprayed the old man with it. Nice job, kid! You’ll have a place at Lambda Sigma Rho if you go to Ryesmore. We need someone like that in case Mistah Shit falls asleep with his bong again.

Think someone is full of awesome? Email suggestions to thefixisin@comcast.net or post in the message board.

Twitter in Focus: Brent Spiner

by tonyd on April 21, 2010 at 1:02 am

Hey bros! Welcome to Twitter in Focus where media comes to die. This week our contestant is esteemed actor and android, Brent Spiner.

April 12th, 12:23pm: “Won’t be around today. Doing a play reading. Much Ado About Nothing. Very impressive cast. I’m the only one I’ve never heard of.”

How very actor of you!

April 12th, 12:31pm: “I play Don Pedro. The role Denzel Washington played in the movie. We are very alike. Always up for the same parts. He ususally gets them.”

You probably should count yourself lucky in regard to The Book of Eli.

April 12th, 12:34pm: “I added that “s” in usually on purpose. That’s what Denzel always does.”

Look, Brent, you gotta spell like Brent, not like some celebrity. Add a “B” or a lower case “f”. Make that word your own.

April 13th, 12:42pm: “Grand night in the theater. Fun chewing the scen…er, trodding the boards with such a great cast. Thanks to Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson.”

Seriously? Holy crap, that was quite a cast.

April 14th, 11:41am: “Just to remind you. I’ll be in Anaheim this weekend with Levar and Michael Dorn. Also the great Shatner, I believe. Next weekend, Calgary.”

Cool. I hope he puts you on Raw Nerve. That show is hilarious.

April 15th, 12:53am: “I think maybe they should just go ahead and kick five people off of American Idol this week.”

Anything to end that show faster. Anything.

April 16th, 12:48am: “dean_cummings:@wilw why is @brentspiner in a constant ‘cold war’ with his followers?–No, my son. I am at ‘cold peace’ with my fans.”

Brent is just trying to have some fun on Twitter, Trekkies. Slow your roll. Hell, most of his twitter is retweets that I’m leaving off.

14 hours ago: “Yes, I believe the current Dalai Lama is a fan of Star Trek and often quotes Spock. When I am Dalai Lama I will quote, “I Love Lucy”.”

Ha! Nice.

8 hours ago: “Free speech is great, but it can protect a sorry bunch. The Supreme Court has decided it is legal to make videos showing cruelty to animals.”

Yeah, don’t quite understand that ruling. Does that mean snuff films are now okay too?

7 hours ago: “This twitter is doing some strange things. Everything I post shows up a few dozen times. I hate repeating myself. I hate repeating myself.”

Oh, no! Someone who always lies, told Data he’s lying!

7 hours ago: “Narrated a short film for the NASA website today. Did it at the Jet Propulsion Lab. Very cool place and people. They like me, too.”

Neat! Link please!

Okay, let’s rate Brent’s tweets. I give him a 7 for Insanity (he answered a lot of tweets from his fans), 7 for Style (look at that avatar pic!) and a 7 for Mustness (he answers his tweets!) That’s an easy 7 for Mr. Data. Definitely one to follow. Just the right amount of tweeting. And if you have a suggestion for Twitter in Focus, email us here.
