I did a great signing at Amalgam Comics & Coffee on Frankford and just across the street was this place.  (Amalgam, btw, just started serving sandwiches.  I had a wrap there, which was really good and fresh.  Plus awesome iced tea!)

Anyhow, I needed some dinner before the big signing and interview, so I ran across to grab a quick burger.  I gotta say, I wasn’t expecting much.  It was only $5 and the place is a little small.  It also had like six people in it for some reason.  After a bit of a wait, I finally got my burger and I was blown away.  Quality bread, perfectly cooked, delicious and it was huge!  It looked like one of those big Bubba burgers.  Man, it was good.  Totally worth the wait.

I would love to go back and try a cheesesteak, but I didn’t want to ruin my shirt before a signing.  There’s only picnic tables outside, so it’s more of a take out or quick stop place.  A surprising gem, Steak N’ Shake.  That whole area of Kensington is coming back in a big way.  Hipsters, if you don’t already live there, take note.

I give Steak N’ Shake in Philadelphia, PA 7 out of 10 keggers.
