One of James Gandolfini’s last films, The Drop features amazing performances, particularly by Tom Hardy.  And Noomi Rapace is no slouch in this movie either.  Set in Brooklyn, it’s about a bartender and his cousin, Marv (Gandolfini).  He owns a bar that’s a drop for the local organized crime family to drop off money.  The bar changes all the time, but when it happens, it’s important that the bar owner stay alert.  Bob (Hardy), as the bartender, just wants to get by, but when the bar gets robbed after a drop, things change.

It’s hard to talk about the plot of the movie without giving away the amazing ending, but trust me, the final scene is completely worth it.  The entire story builds to that moment and Hardy nails it.  Gandolfini is like a less successful, Tony Soprano.  A friend recommended the movie and he was totally right.  It’s pretty gripping, great pacing—  It’s a really a perfect crime movie.  Director Michael Roskam and screenwriter Dennis Lehane (who wrote the short story on which it is based), did a fantastic job on all fronts.

Don’t miss Gandolfini’s last film.  He went out on a great one.  It’s currently playing on HBO.
